chili con carne

There is no better way to get cozy in the middle of winter than with a big bowl of warm and spicy chili topped with a dollop of sour cream. it's has to be one of my favourite comfort foods. The fun part about chili is that you can add a bunch of veggies like carrots and peppers to the recipe and it will still taste amazing and be loved by picky children and adults. Especially if you add corn chips to the sid, and eat chili as a dip. For this recipe I decided to go with a basic beef chili but you can totally use it as a template and add anything you want. the kidney beans can easily be replaced with black beans and if you're not a fan of spicy food, omit the jalapeno. Let's get started!

 ingredients:

  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 jalapeno minced (optional)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2-3 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can red kidney beans

 instructions:

  •  in a skillet, cook the onions, garlic and pepper on medium heat until the onions are translucent.
  • add the ground beef and spices and cook until the beef is no longer pink.
  • reduce the heat to medium-low and add the tomato sauce and beans.
  • let the chili simmer for 30 minutes to an hour.
  • serve with your favourite toppings and a side of corn chips.
  • enjoy!
toppings: sour cream, chopped tomatoes, minced jalapenos, grated cheese, salsa.
